A STANDALONE SERVICE

Our design process consistently brings us to the intersection of community members and the impact of spatial design solutions or proposals. These impacts are historically inequitable, with communities of less affluence and higher concentrations of black and brown residents having significantly less influence on how their communities are shaped. This is a reality we recognize and use intentionally designed community engagement tactics to actively combat.

This inequity exists beyond the practices of architecture, urban design and planning, positioning our ENGAGEMENT services to extend beyond these fields. City Architecture now offers a standalone engagement service to elevate voices, foster collaboration, and build consensus across multiple organizations and project types.

done differently

Community engagement designed by City Architecture is unique, adaptive, and intentionally different. We recognize that community brings the expertise of lived experience, and in many cases this expertise has been undervalued. Our approach utilizes multiple platforms to offer greater accessibility, through non-traditional engagement schedules voices that typical struggle to participate (youth, parents of young children, seniors, etc.) are given the opportunity to participate. Creating an experience for those we interact with that is memorable, uplifting, and above all authentic allows for the most important aspect of community engagement to be established - TRUST. We’ve spent over 3 decades building trust and championing resident voices. Through in-person and virtual interaction, our engagement work aims to strengthen the results of any design process by capturing diverse perspectives . We are committed to inclusive practices that provide multiple avenues of participation, while also seeking to teach and inspire future designers, makers, and change agents.

Our engagement work is strengthened by strong local and national partners who specialize in branding, web development, filmmaking, engineering, strategic planning, communications, and graphic design. Based on the needs of a community, our coalition of partner organizations can provide a wide range of services to meet a community’s needs.
